I created my You Can Make an Ebook! site before I thought of having a blog for it, but if I had thought of a blog first, I would have wanted to create the sales page on my blog.

Using your self hosted WordPress blog to create a sales page for your ebook is so much easier than messing around with HTML.

All you need to do is create a new Page in your blog.  Then you use the Edit Page facility to enter all the information you need.  If you are not sure what to write, read my blog post What To Write On Your Sales Page.

You can use the formatting options in WordPress to create headings, bullet points and a clickable payment link as well.

You can even use the HTML editing option to add a payment button which will take your buyer to the payment page.

You can watch an expert video which shows you how to do all this, below.  The page they create is very basic, but you can make yours a lot fancier simply by using more of the formatting features, adding images, and so on.

There are many possible solutions for hosting your sales page, but no matter which one you pick, you will still be faced with the problem of what to write, to make people feel that they want to buy your ebook.

If you write your sales page well, you will get more sales.  If you don’t, you will have to deal with the disappointment, as well as having to rewrite it later.

Here are 4 areas which you need to address on your sales page (also known as sales letter).

1. What is driving your reader to look for a solution?

If your reader didn’t have a problem, they wouldn’t be searching the internet looking for an ebook like yours.  You need to make them feel that you understand their problem, and can fix it.

2. What have they encountered so far?

If you are an expert, then you will know what your customers have been going through to get to this point of frustration or helplessness.  Show them how your product will help to empower them to achieve the result they want.

3. Take your reader into a better future.

Show readers how, with your ebook, they will not only conquer their issue, but be able to succeed at levels they could only have imagined before.

4. Sell while you have their interest.

At this point, your reader is imagining life on the other side of the hurdle, so it is time to explain how your product can be exactly the thing which gets them there, and how they can get it now.

You can add testimonials and bonuses to enhance your offer, as well a guarantee.

Once you have the structure done, add a bit of your own personality to make the page more personal and real.

If you want a simple sales page creator, you will find a free one here.  It has all the elements you will need to get started.

Enjoy writing your sales page!

In my previous post How To Choose A Profitable Topic for Your Ebook I wrote about how to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, and also mentioned Google Insights for Search, and the Google Wonder Wheel.

Watch the video below for a short but useful introduction to all 3 tools. It will give you an idea of how to use them to pick headlines and topics in trending markets, and how to add value to your chosen niche.

Video: Understanding Keywords and how to use Keyword Search Tools.

It can be confusing, but it can also be very exciting once you get the basics down.

Have you got a an ebook idea buzzing around in your brain?  If so, then you might as well get started now, because that ebook needs to be written… but if you have no idea, then you will want to start by picking a good niche.

Picking a niche is a twofold process.  First, you need to pick a topic which you  can write well about.  It should be interesting to you, either because you have experience in that area, or because it is something you want to try for yourself.

If you don’t know what niches are available, you can go to ClickBank.com and check out their Marketplace.

ClickBank is one of the largest affiliate platforms (i.e. places where people put their ebooks up for sale).

In the ClickBank Marketplace  you will see a list of Categories, and when you click on a Category, you will see sub-categories.

Pick out the ones which you can relate to.

It is good to pick niches which you are personally interested in because:
- it will be easier for you to create good content
- you will understand the topic from a buyer’s point of view

Once you have a list of niches which you are interested in, you’ll need to find which ones are profitable.

There is a tool which will tell you how much interest there is in a particular topic.  It is called the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

This tool will help you to see if there is much demand, or much competition, for your niche.

For example, if you were thinking of writing about natural cat flea control, you could do a search on that phrase, and see how much competition you would have, and how many monthly global searches there are for that keyword.  You would also see other related keywords.

I suggest you read Profitable Keyword Research for simple step by step instructions.  This is a free bonus for my readers.

There are also 2 other Google tools which will help your research.  They are Google Insights for Search, and the Google Wonder Wheel. You can find out more about them in my post 3 Free Tools for Niche Keyword Research.

If you have a not ebook topic buzzing around in your brain, then you will want to get started!

You can create your ebook with MicroSoft Word if you have it, but there is also a free (and highly respected) word processor which you can download to create your document and PDF.

Simply create your document as you want the ebook to appear, and once it is saved, you will be able to export it in PDF format.  You will find the “Export As…” command under the File menu.

If you’re not sure how it all works, make a one page document now, save it as a document, and then Export it and see how the PDF looks.

Some Tips:

  • Use the formatting options (H1, H2, etc.) in OpenOffice to create headings, rather than simply choosing a larger font for your headline text. This will allow you to easily create a table of contents, and bookmarks for your PDF.
  • Use a size of 9″x5″ for your pages, as this makes them readable on various devices.
  • If you have affiliate links or other website links, create some clickable text rather than just inserting the link. It looks a lot nicer.

Leave page breaks and fiddly formatting for later, as text and images will move around as you add more information.

You will find more detailed information about formatting, including how to instantly create a table of contents, in “You Can Make An Ebook!“.

Enjoy your creation!

English: No nofollow

Selling your ebook can become complicated when you need to secure your PDF against unauthorized downloads and outright theft.  You can add nofollow and noindex tags to your download page html, but that does not keep out all search engines or scammers.

Fortunately, the owners of JVZoo Instant Affiliate Platform have come to the rescue with their free secure download service.

When you list your ebook with JVZoo, they give you the option of uploading your PDF to their server.  They then securely handle all downloads to your buyers.

You can list your product for free at JVZoo and they will even host your sales page if you require that.  Compare that to the $49 listing fee at ClickBank, and you will see that it is a very nice system for the beginning marketer.  JVZoo is also very nice for your affiliates, as they get instant commissions while you retain full control of refunds.

You Can Make an Ebook! downloads are hosted at JVZoo.

I’ve been writing ebooks and user manuals in PDF format for a few years now, so it was a natural progression to write “You Can Make An Ebook!“.

Ebooks can be used in so many ways, from self expression to making big bucks (or so they say).  It’s just another way to get your message out, and one which works quite well if you enjoy a bit of writing.

The best thing about ebooks is that you have complete control over your creation, and you can update it very easily.  I haven’t made my ideal ebook yet, but when I do it will be truly beautiful.

If the lady in the video below made millions, then surely there is hope for the rest of us the make some useful cash as well.
